What if there just isn’t enough time in the day to practice guitar?😭😭
This is such a common situation for anyone who plays an instrument. And I think we’ve all felt this before. And I have to bring back the reminder, there will be days or weeks when life is too busy! It’s only natural!
Days Per Week: I have a few ways around this, but first, let’s start by picking just two days out of the week that we’re going to practice.
“But Sydney, aren’t we supposed to practice our instrument every day? How am I supposed to improve? How are 2 days going to get me anywhere”
Let’s be honest, committing to two days of practice throughout the week takes a huge weight off your shoulders, doesn’t it? I hope it makes learning this instrument a little less overwhelming. Pick any two days you like! It can be over the weekend. Monday and Wednesday. Thursday and Friday. It’s up to you! If you have a weekly guitar lesson, fit it somewhere in between the two days.
If we task ourselves with practicing for 6 days, and we know the workweek is going to be busy, that puts us in a position of feeling overwhelmed. And then after 3 days of not touching the guitar we start to beat ourselves up for what we haven’t done and how much time we’ve lost. Don’t let “not” practicing to become a habit! I want us to build the habit of practice and the joy of accomplishment that comes afterward! …Which will make you want to practice more!!
Don’t worry about practicing 6 days a week, we’ll get to that soon. In order to practice for 6 days, we have to be able to practice 2 days consistently for at least 2-3 months. Then we can chat about increasing the number of days per week.
Now if you’re already practicing for more than 2 days a week, GREAT! Keep at it, just make sure you’re able to do the set amount of days consistently week after week.
Time of Day: Keep in mind the time of day you choose to practice matters as well. Don’t try to practice after a long day when you know you’re tired. We might choose to relax instead of pick up the guitar. Find a time where you have the most energy or can have little distraction. Is that 7:30am before you head out for the day? 8:00pm when things are quiet? 12:00pm on your lunch break? 6:00pm in front of the TV praticing scales? 1:00am if you’re a night owl? Great! Again, this is specific to you. And if you’re looking for any guidance on choosing a time please reach out! I’m sure we can work something out!
Now if you’re still feeling like you don’t have the time to fit it into the schedule, don’t worry, I’ll go over more techniques to tackle that in the next 2 lessons!
See you on the next page!
