Now that we’ve got through the different ways to practice. Keep in mind that you should check up on your practice routine every 3 months or so.
This doesn’t mean you have to change anything, but simply ask yourself if you’re still happy with the amount of time you’re practicing.
If the answer is yes, then keep moving forward!
If you find that you’re getting bored, or know that you could be practicing more, then maybe add an extra day of practice!
There’s a good chance that a lot has changed over 3 months. Maybe you just started a new job or new semester, or this could be the busy season at work. Whatever it is, take that into account and modify!
It’s very easy to feel guilty if you’re lowering the amount of practice time, but I think that’s the old-school way of learning an instrument getting to us! I still feel guilty sometimes as well since I grew up with “traditional” music lessons. But as we’ve learned, it’s more about the habit that counts and WHAT you practice during that finite amount of time! You can always go back to 30 minutes of practice when things calm down in a month.
I’d rather we continue practicing for 5 minutes every other day, than just put down the guitar completely for 2 months because things got busy!
Before we know it, we’ll start saying we’ve been playing guitar for 2 years, 5 years, 10 years, or 20 years! Instead of saying we “used to play guitar”. And you’ll know how to adapt to life’s challenges when they happen! It’s universally known that playing an instrument can help with stress. And ultimately, that’s what I want the guitar to be for us at the end of the day! A skill that can bring joy to you and to others!
See you in the next lesson!
